Homework - Hillsborough County School District homework policy for second grade students, is no more than thirty minutes per night. With that in mind, students are expected to read and complete their Reading Log and study spelling words.

It is important for you to check your child's green home folder, as I
will also be sending home classwork that I would like for you and your
child to review.

Home Folder - Each day your child will come home with a green home folder. In the left pocket, you will find any parent information that needs to go home that day and classwork papers to review.

Please take out all papers in the pockets each night.

In the prongs of the folder will be your child's Home Reading Record Log. You child is responsible for reading for at least 20 minutes each night. They can read a book, comic strips, a magazine, an article from the newspaper, etc.. The possibilities are endless!

After they have read each night, they are responsible for writing the title or the type of  material they read and for having you initial the record log; they will also initial it.

Daily Planner - I truly believe that communication between parents and teachers is crucial to your child's success.  In the planner I will record special notes and your child's behavior.  If your child has a sticker, that is an indication to you that he/she had a wonderful day.  If I have made a note about his/her behavior, please be aware that the situation was taken care of at school.  Your child will not receive a sticker for that day and he/she will have a consequence for his/her behavior. Please sign the planner every night. It is checked on a daily basis.  You child will receive an Eagle Buck for having the planner signed. It is your child's responsibility to give his/her planner to you and to ask you to sign it.  A child's green card will be flipped if he/she does not have the Home Reading Log and planner signed.

Behavior System - We use the same classroom management system throughout Pod 6 this year. Children following the rules will be given positive feedback such as verbal praise, stickers, Eagle Bucks to use in our Eagle Buck Store, and other treats.

Eagle Bucks are used as rewards throughout Pod 6. Each child has an opportunity to earn one or more Eagle Buck every day. Eagle Bucks can be redeemed at the Eagle Buck Store, which is supplied and run by parent volunteers. The children have the opportunity to trade their Eagle Bucks for pencils, erasers, rings, trinkets and small toys. The store is available to the children once a week.

Consequences - The consequences for children who choose not to follow the Good Choice Pledge are as follows:

Green card pulled -  warning
Yellow card pulled -  time-out/lost privileges
Red card pulled - Parent contact
